Art Sanctuary Welcomes Back: Romeo Sr. Vangoethemd

From a heap of old scrap metal....
like a bird Phoenix....
with power and strength
grace and beauty;
New creations appear;

Art Sanctuary Welcomes back Giséle De Rop

Sculpteur, peintre,
mais aussi poète...
L'art est poésie

I am very, very happy to announce the return of this wonderful artist - and poet -  to
'The Enchanted Garden' - 2012!

Art Sanctuary Welcomes Yvette Elbaum

'Medium Jack(ie) of All Trades'
It's a bit difficult for me to introduce this artist; because I relate to what she does and says in so many ways;
I am very excited about what she will bring!

from

Art Sanctuary Welcomes Back: Roland Menten

Roland Menten was exhibiting in Art Sanctuary last year - and
I am very happy to announce:
The Snail man is back!

Somewhere, sort of in the middle of Europe - in the middle of Belgium - in the middle of a little neighbourhood - there is a sort of rather normal looking house... well, with the exception of this giant stone sitting right in front of it...with this giant snail on top of it.....oh, and this little strange face looking up at you from one of the stones of the stairs leading to the entrance....you suddenly stumble, just a little....
Besides that, it looks and appears rather normal -
Well, there is also a face appearing from one of the bushes, but...you pass it rather easily -
and then ....
And then, if you are lucky, you will learn that this is the furthest from a 'normal house' you can get...
Because - below this normal-looking house there is a whole other world!
This is the World of 'The Slow Ones'....
Now - There is someone else who (also) inhabits this world;
He is the Guardian and the Creator of 'The Slow Ones'.
And this someone hasn't let anyone, not even his dear wife, enter for many, many years!
The Slow Ones don't really know what to make of this Guardian/Creator -
because HE is the furthest from Slow you can get.....
Like a whirlwind he comes and goes!
But his wife knows...
And so - she tells him new stories...
And the Slow Ones listen....

'Daredevil'

- This 'Dance Theme' of yours! - Look what happens - I'm falling!

'Dancing in the Summer Breeze' :)

'The Search for Balance and Harmony'

(Photo: Elodie Duquenne)

dimensions..."

'A true ornament is not a decoration, but expresses the untouched soul of something.'

Yanagi Soetsu
(Japansk filosof)

"The ornament is an image of the essence of something.
It expresses the essential and has thrown away all that is insignificant.
You can call it a simplification of reality.
When the excess is removed and only the essential is left behind, thereof rises the ornament.
A true ornament is not a decoration, but expresses the untouched soul of something.
Although the ornamentation is not an accurate depiction, it contains a truth that transcends reality."
Yanagi Soetsu

Yanagi Soetsu
(Philosophe japonais)

Art Sanctuary Welcomes Jean-Michel Uyttersprot

L'aquatinte,
L'acide et le burin.
Le papier,
les encres,
et la presse.

The representation of figures, places obliterated by time.
The passage in the darkroom

Then came the engraver.
The copper plate,
The aquatint,
The acid and the chisel.
The paper,
inks,
and the press.

Art Sanctuary Welcomes Guy Deltour

Magic in a Philosopher's Stone
I know of a big and beautiful forest, and in this forest there is a castle, and in the castle there lives a man. This man is the king of all the lands as far as the eye can see.
At the edge of this beautiful forest, there lives another man. This man is not a king, and he doesn't live in a castle, and and he certainly doesn't rule over any lands. But all of the forest echoes his presence - Spring and Summer, Autumn and Winter – it is him you will hear; As the hardest stone is molded and shaped, the chisel is singing, as the philosopher's stone is springing to life.

'It is the trace of my passage. It is a hymn to life.'

Since my childhood, nature has been my refuge, my observatory, in short, my natural element.
The hidden structure of nature and the forms which it wraps have always exerted a magnetic pull on me.
My career started in the cartoon studios Belvision, continued and completed in scientific illustration at the Royal Museum for Central Africa, Tervuren (Belgium). Restored to liberty, I can finally unleash my artistic creativity.
The techniques used are mixed. The paintings and sculptures generally represent scenes of wild sweetness, attitudes of animals on the alert, migrating, or sleepy breaks for some of them.

This is a re-creation, which is elaborated in my inner space and invites the viewer to externalize their emotions. This is a report from soul to soul. When the work touches the essence of being, that is when the goal is reached.

Arts Sanctuary Welcomes: Gaelle Colonius

Art Sanctuary welcomes:
 A real - very sofisticated - 'Bag Lady' :)

"Imagination is the beginning of creation.
Imagine what you want, want what you imagine, and you will eventually create what you want.

I love the smell of leather, the texture, and how it changes over time.
My creations are the highlights of my desire for simplicity and durability."

Welcome: Les Liseuses Fabuleuses!

This is definitely something very different :)
And I will never be able to find the right picture to present them...because they are ALL about WORDS!
 - So, read below!

Les Liseuses Fabuleuses is a literary voice club revolving around Anne-Marie Segers, Wim Goossens, Kim Verthé, Isabel Voets and Carla Rosseels. The initiative was started in 2011, and was inspired by the Viennese and Parisian literary salons, as well as the film La Lectrice, about a woman who earns a living reading to people in their homes.
Les Liseuses Fabuleuses will read in all word-friendly places: offices, on promenades along the Belgian coast, in libraries, museums, cafes, on CD/DVD, in the poetry taxi. They offer packages around motley themes such as love, coffe and eternal youth, but will gladly compile new packages.
Literature is the stuff of everyday life, like eating bread and brushing teeth, which is why Les Liseuses and ist voices opt for accessible and flowing poems. All Liseuses are professionally involved with words. New at Les Liseuses are the poetry installation rentals.
So far, Les Liseuses Fabuleuses have read in Antwerp, Brussels, Gent, Ostend, Bruges, Holland, Madrid, Barcelona… But also for Flemish TV programmes such as Man Bijt Hond, on TV channel Vitaya and in supermarkets. Les Liseuses have worked and still work with, amongst others, literary organizers Behoud De Begeerte, Passa Porta International Literature Brussels, Stichting Lezen, Creatief Schrijven, Antwerpen Averechts, Fundacion Carlos de Amberes.

Stemmen. Ronde, warme, zachte stemmen. Wapperende stemmen. En dan woorden. Blote, onvervalste, mooie woorden.

They arrive June 29th - Opening

Welcome: Isabelle Schnock

A gymnast making clay dance

Isabelle is a trained gymnast, and an autodidact sculptor; finding her inspiration in dance, acrobatics, and wherever movement is found!
Her latest passion is 'raku' – the Japanese technique – which means 'joy, spantaneity, and good fortune in the random'... For her a creative process where defects, risks, and at times shocks, are researched, in her 'attempt to express the history of the elements of earth, fire, and water, and what can be the beauty of life's unpredictability.'
